Guitar Hero 4 to feature custom tracks (LINK)

Game Spot (Click the link next to the title) has up an article detailing info on new info for Guitar Hero 4. Previous announcements indicate Activision trying to move in the direction Harmonix (The original GH creators) already has, vocals and drums. The drum from GH4 though will detect various levels of pressure, has 3 pads, 2 elevated cymbals and a pedal.
With this, they are going to allow song creation/sharing and will be distributing a toolkit to facilitate this. 5 songs will be the limit at the start. I'd love to call this an "innovation" but its really not. DDR allowed people to create their own dance steps for music, and games like StepMania on the PC have been doing this for years. (Including adding new music with the steps)
I'm not terribly excited by the GH series anymore, but I really hope this is the first step for Neversoft or another developer to do something worthwhile in the genre. Neversoft's attempt to copy what Harmonix had done was a failure to me. Across the internet, you can read reviews on GH3 and find that overall, it scored less than its previous 2 games. (Well, 3, you could Encore Edition) GH3 seemed to take the focus off of the music in many cases and just degraded the experience for me. I really didn't need boss battles or groupie type shots in the game. Not to mention the last tier was just amazingly difficult compared to the rest. It was like they were playing a different game until then.
Here's to hoping that Neversoft is looking to change the game up and make it exciting again. Though really guys, if you're making it more of a band type environment you might want to reflect that by dropping the GH name now!
